Vel'Koz, was such an honor to work on, the champion team really came together for this. It all started with a simple marker sketch of a squid. The concept went through many different iterations before reaching this point.
Because Riot isn't a super realistic company, they are more of a cartoony one, just look at other concepts and you will see how AMAZING this game would look if they went with the much more realistic versions.
out of curiosity: when your designing things like champs, skins, etc etc do you put into consideration things like budget in 3d modeling, re using existing resources (textures, models, coding etc) and what not? p.s theres always trolls/ppl that take offense to everything and anything, im just curious....
Not at first, no, but I do always design with camera angle in mind always. Sometimes blue sky ideation and a concept push can break new barriers within league current engine constrains. Example the team had to came up with new turn tech and animations tweaks to make his tentacles move properly.
